Motherboard having issues?

I am currently testing out an Asus Maximus vii before I sell it. I popped the 4790k out of my main rig and put it in the Maximus. I hit the power button, and it seems to post just fine and go into the BIOS. The CPU temps are around 40C however they seem to fluctuate. After about a minute the code on the motherboard turns to 00 and it shuts down. I suspect that it might be the CPU getting to hot, but as I said before the BIOS reads out 40C which is normal. Is the motherboard dead? Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT: It seems that as soon as the temperature in the BIOS hits 40C the error code turns to 00 and it shuts off.

Yes I do have a cooler on it. I know that it is not the CPU as it runs fine in my main rig.

Have you checked for bent/broken pins in the socket? All power connections good, might bench it and troubleshoot have a guide here:
