Hi. So, I have an old Nvidia GTX 285 that I'm trying to get installed in another old motherboard as a guest computer. I installed the card and the motherboard doesn't recognize the card. Power is being sent to the card and the fan runs at 100 percent. I'm not getting any signal.

I previously had a cheap nvidia quadro on it and it worked perfectly. I also tried installing my AMD 6850 saphire and that worked aswell.

The GTX 285 appears to work as well because when I plug it into my main computer it works just fine and the fans doesn't run at 100 percent either.

I went into the BIOS and selected the primary graphics to be PCI-E, I even tried regualr PCI for lucks sake and nothing happend.

When I tried to install the drivers the installation software couldn't find the card either. I'm completely stumped guys...

I switched to my Integrated graphics for installation

it a Compaq Presario SR1901WM Desktop running window 7 32 bit
Sempron 3200+
Asus A8N-LA Motherboard
2 gig ddr1 ram

The GTX 285 is a 204W card. http://www.hwcompare.com/5920/geforce-gtx-285-1gb-vs-radeon-hd-6850/
It requires 2 6 pin PCIe connectors feeding it. If you still have the stock PSU, it isn't enough to run the card. Probably why it wouldn't turn on. How were you feeding the card, with PCIe to Molex adapters?

The other possibility is that HP/Compaq "locks" their BIOS so only cards they authorize can be recognized. (Rumored)

Nvidia says my card needed 550 watt so I bought a 600 watt PSU just like I did with my main computer. Yes I had the Molex connectors installed. I've reseated the card several times as well, and as for the bios lock that seems rather unlikely because I've installed other graphics card into it without fault. Although I did run into the same problem when I tried my stepdads Nvidia card too.

I sent the PSU back and got a different brand, problem was fixed. Thanks for helping me though!
