Motherboard power button not working?

So I've had my first build for a few weeks now and have had some trouble with my PSU, the PC sometimes won't turn on until I wiggles the cables until one day it stopped working entirely (it must've short circuited). I researched why it could be doing this and like the inexperienced person I am I forgot to put in the motherboard standoff screws. I disassembled it, put the screws in then put it back EXACTLY where the cords were plugged in (I even labeled the cords to be sure) and now when it's plugged in the power light on the motherboard turns on but when I press it the PC won't turn on.

I've had the PC working fine for weeks so I know that I have all the required plugs in so I'm not sure why it isn't working. I've tried the paperclip test and it didn't work which surprised me because the power supply is still giving power to the motherboard evident by the light that's on.

Could the fact that the motherboard wasn't installed correctly have damaged any components? if so, which ones? And is this why the power button isn't working or it a problem with the PSU?

PSU: Corsair CX-600 Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Ranger Motherboard
