Hi all , i have a Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5 mobo ( http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga790fxtaud5 ) with OCZ AMD Black Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 memory ( https://pcpartpicker.com/part/ocz-memory-ocz3be1600c8lv4gk )

I want to remove old 4gb ram and install Mushkin Blackline 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
( http://pcpartpicker.com/part/mushkin-memory-997069s ) . From what i see timings and pc12800 and all numbers seem similar so this should work on my motherboard shouldnt it ? unfortunately since my mobo is legacy product there is no info about compatibility or not with this ram module

Will my old mobo and this ram module be compatible ? thank you

Yea try not intermix brands by the way, if your question has been answered you may pick a solution so we may conclude this thread :D. By the way what are the RAM timings of the new and old one

my current OCZ ram timings are 8-8-8-24

the new MUSHKIN Ram are 9-9-9-24

do you think this will matter ?

As long as your RAM timings are the same i guess you may intermix brands but i highly not suggest to do that. When putting a set of ram make sure your Motherboard supports the RAM timings. So lets say you had Mushkin RAM 9-9-9-24 and the old one were at lets say 8-8-8-24. In order for both of them to work they need to be at the same timings.

A lot of mis-info here - first and foremost your mobo supports 16GB of DRAM total and that's in a 4x4GB setup, occasionally a board with the 4x4GB design might get a BIOS update to where it can run 8GB sticks, but very seldom. Think you are prob out of luck with the 8GB sticks not working, I'd return them if you can. Another note: contrary to what Justkeeplookin said, the fact that a mobo uses DDR3 DOES NOT MEAN it can run any DDR3, there are low density sticks, and the newer high density (which doesn't work in many older mobos) sticks, there's also the newer PnP DRAM which also doesn't work with many mobos

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That said he would probably wanna upgrade MoBo's to run the newer PnP DRAM?I said as long as it supports. I am not that much familiar to Mushkin ram
