Motherboard screws not fully in/not straight in

Hey guys,

I wanted to ask if it's bad if the motherboard screws that go into the standoffs do not go fully in or are not fully straight. I am asking this because when I put screws in certain standoff holes they stick out a bit and are not straight in. If it is bad, does anyone know what I can do about it? My case is a Corsair Carbide Spec-03 and my motherboard is an MSI B150A Gaming Pro.

Thanks in advance.

From the pic, use the one on the right. (The wrong screws will engage for maybe a turn and then lock up - will not bottom).

Recently, I have experienced tight motherboard screws while assembling into the standoffs. The correct screws that came with the motherboard were used. The reason for the tightness is because these screws are manufactured by the "thread rolling" process and occasionally the rolls go out of alignment and also wear down. This leads to the threads not conforming to the Class 2A standards.

My solution to this was to selectively pick screws and pre-assemble them into the standoffs to ensure that I will end up with screws that fit when I put my PC together. (I have spare screws salvaged from old computers).

Thanks! I checked it and I am already using those. I will try to rescrew them and maybe try some other screws (of the same type/same bag) because maybe the fault is in the certain screw. (That would explain why some do go fully in/are straight and some don't). Also if this doesn't work and I can't get the screws straight, could I just leave it like that because the motherboard is in good and won't fall out or would it short my motherboard?

The screws must be snug at least, when assembled; clearances are not permissible.

The screws have two functions. 1) To mechanically secure the motherboard to the back-plate via the standoffs, and 2) To provide an electrical ground circuit and it is important design-wise to ground the motherboard at all the designated ground points. They form a "ground loop".

Keep matching screws until you find a set that works. Some of the rolled threads screws look terrible when viewed through a magnifying glass (loupe).

I looked at it again today, tried screwing them again and they look good now. Thank you and everyone for their help 😀. I am surely coming back to this forum when I need help again!
