Motherboard short circuit?

I have a Lga1155 and my computer was getting too hot so I decided to buy a hypercooler 212 LED cpu cooler and I had a friend come over and help me install it, we took out everything and we installed the CPU and put everything back in, when we turned the computer on and then we got a heavy burnt smell and nothing else, everything seemed to be working but the display to the monitor wouldn't work. We tried nearly everything for like 4 hours go get it to work but it is still not working, what do I do?

Figure out what part has the "burning" smell.

Is it the motherboard? CPU maybe? or the GPU?
