So i recently changed from a micro atx to atx board which means i require 1 standoff/screw, which is just 1 on the right side of the board. if the board never touches the case meaning it doesnt short. it should be fine, right?

You'll be fine as long as the board doesn't flex and make contact with the case. You can always use something that's plastic and use it as a spacer if it's bothersome. Might be better off putting them on all four corners and missing the middle one to provide more rigidity.
