I have been researching a lot online that after the Windows 10 Anniversary Update we can now switch Motherboards without having to reinstall Windows. So I decided to upgrade to the MSI 970A Krait. So I hooked it up but got this;

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". Error Code: "0xc000000e

I plugged in my Windows 10 USB and tried to Reset and Troubleshoot but it tells me that the drive is locked.

I did my research for this but apparently there's info I'm missing and I can't seem to find it. These folks who got this going just says "I got it working" didn't specify how they got it working.

The change with the Anniversary release related to activation and licensing. Not the potential requirement for a reinstall.

Previous, a motherboard change triggered reactivation, which may mean buying a new OS license.
That has nothing to do with actual operation and booting up with new hardware.

New hardware may or may not need a full reinstall.

Thanks. Just when you thought they made it easy for you. Looks like I'll be returning this board back to Fry's Electronics and reinstalling the old Mobo.

With the update you should be able to link your account to your Windows 10 license. I had a similar problem and I was on the phone with customer support about this issue. I changed my motherboard and license would not activate on the new hardware. To resolve the issue the rep just activated my windows with a new key.

Thanks. The thing is I could not even get into the C:\ drive. I got "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". Error Code: "0xc000000e" and to top it off it said it was locked when I tried to reset it. I did not want to have to reformat and reinstall as that would have defeated the purpose of upgrading the motherboard.

If drive still plays up on old motherboard, you can try these steps to unlock the drive: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/the-drive-where-windows-is-installed-is-locked

Most of the time you change the motherboard you have to fresh install. Its a question of how much difference there is between old motherboard and new, sometimes it works and others it doesn't. There are no guarantees as everyones PC's have different parts in them... unless they brand name PC.

I want to thank you all for your help guys. I reverted back to the old MOBO and Windows loaded. I was also experimenting with some Crossfire with my RX 480 and 470 (kinda worked but wonky). Got to give the PC a break now, Lord knows she's been through a lot tonight. I'm surprised nothing broke 😛 . Again thank you all.
