I was looking to get a Dell 2713HM and several forums state that the full 2560x1440 resolution can only be achieved through the displayport connector and not HDMI or DVI.

I'm looking to buy a new build and and was going to either get the Asus Z97-A which has DP or the Hero VII which does not. For a few months I will not have a dedicated GPU.

Does anyone know if I bought the Hero VII will a DVI to DP adaptor work with the native HD4600 to give me full 2560x1440 resolution?

It's like pulling teeth to get Intel to 'fess up what they support as maximum resolution. I've spent fruitless hours on their website getting lost in links.

This, however, may help: http://www.pugetsystems.com/parts/Video-Card/Integrated-Intel-Mobile-HD-Graphics-4600-9792

Since it's not officially Intel, it may be subject to revision or web-rot or any one of a number of other maladies that make it incorrect.

However, that document claims:

Maximum DVI Resolution 1920x1200
Maximum HDMI Resolution 4096x2160
Maximum DisplayPort Resolution 3840x2160
HDCP Compliant Yes
Memory Specifications
Shared Memory Up to 1700 MB
Additional Information
DirectX Support DirectX 11.1
OpenGL Support 4.0

Your problem I believe is more to do...

Your problem I believe is more to do with the architecture of DVI and DP. You cannot get better resolution by attaching an adapter. Since the Adapter still looks like DVI or HDMI, it will not get the DP resolution. Hence it cannot add resolution that isn't there.

DVI-Dual-link supports higher resolution.

Similarly, HDMI 1.4 supports only up to 2560×1600 at 60 Hz and 4096×2160 at 30 Hz- you don't want that. - the 1.5 standard will support it at 60Hz.

Not sure when/if 1.5 will hit the streets, with 4K TVs is should be anytime soon.
