I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here. I put a liberal coating of thermal paste on everything, but the computer fails to boot. Here is what I am building:

MSI X99S Krait
Intel i7 5820k Haswell
Ripjaw 4 series 32gb (4 x 8GB)
Two Geforce GTX 980s

What do you mean you put a liberal coating of thermal paste on everything? That statement kind of worries me, as the CPU is the only thing you typically need to add thermal paste to, and if you add too much that can cause all sorts of problems.

You can try removing everything except the CPU and one RAM stick and see how that does. That will help reduce the chance of a bad RAM stick or GPU causing the issue.

Based on my understanding of thermal paste, and by no means do I consider myself a computer expert, but it is used to dissipate heat, ensure a tight glue like fit, and maximize performance. With that in mind I did what im sure everyone on this forum did with their builds. I applied the thermal paste into the into all the little slots on the motherboard. I want my new computer to be as fast as possible but I dont like having a lot of fan noise. Maximizing my coverage of thermal paste should help reduce the amount of cooling my PC will need.

This still does not answer the question as to why it wont boot... not even to the bios.

What do you mean I ruined it? I am trying to clean it out right now as we speak. Im using Q-Tips and paint thinner. I know alcohol would be the better choice but I only have what my dad has in his tool shed. Now I am just leaving little cotton fibers everywhere... I am not sure what to do... Should i send it back to the manufacturer? Clearly thermal paste in everyslot must be a common problem they encounter... I am not sure how I can explain the paint and labels on the mobo peeling off and fading, im sure it is not the thinner doing that. Suggestions to resolve this problem would be very very appreciated!

Probably nothing you can do, paint thinner is not a good idea, as you've found QTip aren't either as they leave fibers, I use foam swabs and/or lint free cloths and rubbing alcohol for minor cleaning, if you have thermal compound in the actual slots like the PCI slots or stuck it in USB ports etc, you aren't going to get it clean and workable
