Hi All,

I need some help selecting a motherboard. I have been considering a Sabertooth 990FX, but it seems impossible to get hold of a revision 1. I have noted that the revision 2 seems to have problems with the onboard audio and I don't really want to fork out £130 if I'm not getting the full features of the board, hence why I would prefer a revision 1.

Overclocking is something I want to look into. I do have an aftermarket cooler in the form of an Arctic Freezer A30, so I understand that I might not be able to take the overclock too high. My current motherboard is a Biostart TA970 which is fine for stock speeds but no good for overclocking... hence the low price tag I got it for which is why I am now looking to spend a little more.

I'm tempted by the Gigabyte Ga-990FXA-UD3, which is cheaper than the Sabertooth but wouldn't mind knowing if there are any really bad problems with this board such as audio not working, or not enough physical room. So, my current specs which matter are:-

FX8350 cooled by Arctic Freezer A30
4x 4GB Kingston HyperX Black CL9 DDR3 1600MHz
Biostar TA970
Casecom 6788 Tower
GTX 770 4GB
I do have a PCI Wireless NIC as well, so a slot will need to be reserved for that!

I don't know if I will be doing any SLI... but I wouldn't mind it as an option, although unlikely as I think I would need a bigger case. So does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for the response. As it goes, I did a little more digging and found that the ud3 also has a couple of problems with audio jacks. I was so close to buying it as well.

As it goes, I ended up spending a little extra and buying the Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0, which as far as I can tell, seems to have been revised properly, as it did have a problem with the FX chip range when it first appeared. I got it from Amazon, although it was a wee bit cheaper elsewhere I also needed neodynium magnets to mod my x52.

I ACTUALLY wanted the Sabertooth... it was just the problem with the onboard audio that put me off in the end and I couldn't justify the price of a Formula V, when I will be most likely to upgrade again in 18 months time when the AMD Xen hits the market. I can't wait for the Xen... looks like it might give Skylake a run for its money!
