Hello,

I'm planning to upgrade my motherboard and I want one that supports up to 10th gen CPUs, but I noticed that these motherboards have a socket size of LGA 1200, so does that mean that the CPU I'm buying must be 10th gen since 10th gen CPUs have a size of LGA 1200?

In short, 10th gen CPU mobos only have a size of LGA 1200? 8th and 9th gen CPU mobos come in LGA 1151?

Nope ... LGA1151 (V1) is present on 100/200 series motherboards, so only 6th and 7th gen intel chips will work.

300 series motherboards have the LGA1151 v2, therefore 8th and 9th gen chips are compatible.

However an 8th/9th gen will actually fit in a 100/200 series motherboard as the socket is similar, but they're not compatible.

Yup, that's it.

Also, if you're running a 6th gen chip and need to swap to a 7th gen you might need to update your BIOS (that's valid if you haven't already updated to a BIOS that supports 7th gen chips).
