Hello all,

Which is a good motherboard to go with intel's i5 2500k CPU as well as a good power supply? I've been trying to buy a power supply (around 550w range) but I keep reading about them dying 2 minutes later or exploding. Thank you.

Thought I'd give you a couple choices.
Since you're going with 2500K (assuming you already have it) I assume you're OC'ing. If you don't already have it, why not get the new Ivy Bridge 3570K? Anyways, if OC'ing you want the Z77 chipset and the ASRock Extreme4 is very popular for that. Otherwise, the H77 chipset saves you some money and the two above are good "bang for the buck" non-OC boards.

On a side note, were you looking for an ASUS-specific suggestion?
The post was located in Motherboards & Memory > Asus > Motherboards section, was that on purpose?
I love ASUS and almost exclusively use them but they can be a bit overpriced in comparison to many others.
The 2nd link I provided for a mobo for OC'ing is the same board I use now, except I don't OC my i7-3770.

Thank you for your reply. I am a new user and they had a little pop up box that said "ask the community now" and I had to put it in some area. If any rules were broken it was unintentional. I've never built a computer and so this is my first time. I don't think I'll really ever overclock anything but this CPU was cheaper than the other one that didn't have a K on it (i5 2500). I'm going to look at the items now that you suggested. Thanks again for your time and input.

I haven't bought the CPU yet but I don't have a ton of money at this point so I'm not sure if I can get the ivy bridge series CPU yet.

Right now the i5-3570K is only $10 more than the 2500K and is the newer generation with better integrated graphics. I'd strongly suggest the 3570K if you haven't already purchased the 2500K.

Since you do not intend to overclock, I'd definitely recommend the MSI H77 motherboard.

I will be using this desktop wirelessly since the router is not in my room and it's inconvenient to try and put it in the hallway so do you know or recommend a good wifi card (or wifi USB stick thing)?

And also should I buy a video card? I'm not really going to be playing any games but I like the feeling of have the option to play a game with smooth graphics and no lagging.

Maybe 100$(usd) but currently I don't think I'll buy one. I'm having a bit of trouble putting all the power wires together into the motherboard. Especially the jfp1 and jfp2.

Thanks. I went with the MSI ZH77A-G43 LGA 1155 Intel H77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS board and I was able to figure out that i did have all the connections together properly its just that because i didn't have the memory cards in it wasn't turning on. The pins got a bit bent but its still working so i wont touch them anymore. Maybe more in the spring I'll buy the video card. Right now it doesn't feel that necessary to have it. Thanks for all your help, it is very appreciated.
