Mouse and keyboard won't work maybe because of windows license

Recently I built a new pc and reused the harddrive and case from the old pc I'm replacing it with. The motherboard is the prime a320m-k micro. The mouse and keybaord work perfectly fine on the BIOS.

So my problem is when I choose a boot option and boot from my harddrive that has windows from my old pc the keyboard and mouse don't work. I updated the drivers and booted from my dvd driver with the windows restore disc but no luck. I've seen people have troubles like this but none have fixed my issue. I'm starting to wonder if the windows license is the problem with the non functioning mouse and keyborad on boot up. I have tried sticking the keybaord/mouse in different ports but still doesn't work.

I was wondering if I have to take apart the pc I built and put in the old parts with the harddrive then deactivate the license from that motherboard so the mouse/keyboard will work on boot to the new motherboard. Meaning I have to take apart and put together 4 times and I will do it if I have to. My last resort is to do a fresh install of windows meaning I have to download the windows tool on a usb then transfer it to my new pc and I don't even know if my mouse and keyboard will work using that approach.

Please if anyone has an answer I would like to see. WILL DEACTIVATING WINDOWS on the old motherboard finally make the mouse and keybaord work?

Solution
hi, if you didn't reformatted hdd yet, try tu put the drive into the first pc, if you have it.

if you don't want to fresh install, do this:
create a restore point, then download and install chipset and usb driver for your new mobo.
If chipset driver results in bsod, restore windows in advanced startup menu and then install only usb driver
you will probably need other drivers for your new mobo downloaded on the drive, so just download them, but DON'T INSTALL them yet.
now put the drive into new computer and install other drivers if you can move your mouse or navigate with keyboard.
after installing the drivers, run disk default widows cleanup wizard(hit winkey and write disk and you will find it). after it analyzes your disk, click...
Well for starters you have to perform a fresh install of Windows as you cannot simply move it from one PC to another which has totally different hardware and expect everything to work fine and dandy.

A fresh install is not a last resort at all, on the contrary it's the correct way to go about it in your circumstances - :sarcastic:

really, ok but I still don't get why my mouse and keyboard won't work though

Not worth worrying about unless you do a full, fresh install, and you still have a problem. A lot of weird issues can pop up when you take a shortcut and skip a step. OS installs aren't Lego, that you can just pop in and out whenever you have a hankering.

Ok I will do all this tomorrow it is really late right not. Thanks for the responses

You have to install the mobo chipset drivers in Win7 in order to make your hardware works. Some AM4 mobos need drivers installation in Win7.
Use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to find, download and install the drivers.
But as the Phillip and DS said, a fresh install is always better.
i suggest you to follow my suggestion first just to solve the issue, then a fresh install will be a good idea.

Question, when givin the option to upgrade or customize on windows 10 setup, shouldn't I just select upgrade and keep all the programs on the harddrive? Don't have a ps/2 keyboard or mouse.

So I installed windows onto a usb and plugged it in but no usb boot option was shown in the BIOS. Any idea why the options doesn't show up? My motherboard is us boot compatible aswell. please help...

How did you "install" this on the USB?

Went on the miscrosoft website then downloaded the media tool. I opened the file then chose the language and stuff... plugged in my usb then chose the usb option to install. waited to finish and it finished. click finish and windows was on the usb.

So in the Boot section of the BIOS, what does it say?

Fast Boot -enabled
Next boot after AC Power loss-normal boot
Boot Configuration
CSM
Secure boot
Boot option 1
Boot option 2
cd/dvd rom drive bbs priorities
hard drive bbs priorities

yup...

Question from lolvizon : "Unable to boot with usb"

Plug your usb, start your machine and enter BIOS.
Go to Boot section and disable Secure Boot.
Enter the hard drive bbs priorities and move your usb stick to the top.
Save changes and reboot

disabling secure boot is greyed out. It makes it so you can't disable seure boot. How do you disable secure boot if it doesn't allow you.

Follow what others? Could it have something to do with the usb which was used to update the BIOS and now having windows on it? So if you update the BIOS you can't use the same usb to boot windows from?
