Mouse double clicking when only single clicking

I was having this issue on my old logitech mouse so I recently bought a new mouse thinking that it was hardware issues. Well seems to have the same problem and I have no idea what the issue is. It will double click anytime I single click, in windows explorer, chrome, during games just no matter what. I've searched for viruses, re-installed the mouse drivers and have no idea what the issue is.

Can you tell us what new mouse you got and how long you've had it? Also, what you are probably experiencing is known as a doubl-click issue/bug. After a certain period of time, mice become more prone to wear and tear or even just have dirt/dust build up inside. Here is an article explaining it a bit and also an example of a fix.

Now, that example had a fairly basic mouse. I've had 2 Razer mice which both had the double-click problem. I had to take them apart and spray electrical cleaner on the clicking mechanisms. This would only work temporarily and I'd have to redo it every 2 months or so. Take apart your mouse would void warranty btw.

It could be you just have your sensitivity set too high in Mouse settings too.

Ok well if you have checked the sensitivity levels on the mouse then my only other thought is that it's a cheap chinese mouse and is defective. I haven't had many good experiences with cheap chinese electronics and ebay.

So for me, the old mouse got too old and started to double click and this new cheap one you bought was just not good to begin with.

It is not just you. I am having the same issue with 4 different mice on 2 different computers. I replace one mouse with a brand new Logitech, same issue. On the other computer I replaced one with a Microsoft mouse, same issue. Now with this happening on 2 different machines I wonder if it is something installed or if it is an update from MS.

Also, Just to add, one set was wireless and the other was wired.

I have the same issue but it definitely isn't a broken mouse. I run Ubuntu Linux most of the time and have no issues with my wireless Microsoft mouse until I switch to Windows 7. I've tried cold booting as well and the problem persists. It is probably a Windows 7 driver.

You can run Ubuntu Linux from a USB drive (doesn't modify the hard drive) to test your mouse in Linux to show that it isn't a mouse issue.

I'm still looking for a reason / cause / solution.

I had the same problem. I confirmed that it was not hardware by plugging the mouse in to a different computer, and also by trying another known good mouse on my Windows 7 desktop. The hardware in my case was fine. In the end, I had to uninstall both the driver (via hardware manager, uninstall and select "remove driver") AND the software that came with the mouse (in this case MS). Once they were gone, a reboot and reload of drivers solved the problem. BTW, an easy way to test is on the mouse control panel where you set the double click speed. The animation changes when it detects a double click, so you can use it to see if single clicks are being read incorrectly.

In my experience this is not a hardware issue. Multiple Logitech wireless mice all have the same problem on my Windows 8.1 Lenovo laptop. Same mice have no issues on another computer. Click speed settings make no difference, uninstalling the Logitech software makes no difference.

Looks like a deeper driver issue. I've returned to a cheap wired noise which works perfectly. Logitech mice are now physically unusable for me on this machine.
