Mouse stopped working on my desk.

I have had this desk and at least 3 different mice with no problems. The one I am currently using worked just fine 20 mins ago. Now it wont work only on the spot of my desk I use the mouse. I can use the arm of my chair, my clothes, even other areas on the desk. I have tried cleaning the desk seemed to actually worsen the problem I have tired "dirtying" the area and still to no avail. Seriously what is going on here lol

I used a bare desktop (wood grained) surface for a few years until I upgraded to a Razer Mamba. Noticed "dead" spots/ erratic movement. Bought a nice, uniform gaming mouse pad and never had an issue since. You could try using isopropyl alcohol and a Q-Tip to clean the eye of the mouse, that may help as well.

Ya I have tried the alcohol and replacing the batteries. It is just very odd it is also a wood grain desk and I have experienced dead spots but not to this degree. Literally the mouse works everywhere else on the desk of the same material, just not the area where it sits...

I have noticed the texture or "glossyness" having an effect before, aswell. If your desk is like mine, there is no more grittyness to the area I used as a mouse pad and thats when I started having issues. That may explain why it works in other locations -- simply because you turned your mouse into a sander

A "gaming" mouse pad certainly isn't necessary, but I do recommend one. been using the same one with a nice gel rest I got free from office max in 2002. Lol

simplest thing to do, put down a piece of paper in the same spot and try on that. If it works, it's the desk surface. If it doesn't something unique to the location or way your holding it. Cord kink. Wireless interference. Hair in the laser that only messes with it when held at that angle. etc.

Yup that's the potential surface issue. wear causing it to pick up a "shine" the bounces the light/laser off at an incorrect angle

It is wireless and is a gaming mouse it does work on a piece of paper. I just don't understand why now after never having a problem before it is having issues only in that one spot of the desk. is what it is I guess I have never been a fan of mousepads...sadly I may just return this and use my other cheap wireless that still has no probs in that spot.

That reminds me, I also used to tape a heavy sheet of construction paper to my desk and that works extremely well. When it wears out/ gets dirty, just replace it

You could always try a blast of compressed air at the sensor/emitter. I suppose there could be something that got up in there that's suddenly compounding the surface issue.

Honestly don't get why anyone wouldn't want a comfortable mouse pad but I'm sure that depends on "mousing" style. The basic flat plastic ones should take care of it with no effect though.

Posterboard or any piece of cardboard might hold up better, but same concept. If he doesn't mind it lol
