I have a Creative Sound Blaster Live card that has been serving me very well. But recently I bought a NVIDIA GTX 760 card and had to move my sound card down 2 slots to give the video card some breathing room as it takes up 2 slots. Since I moved the sound card I am not getting any sound out of it. In the hardware manager, it says "this device is working properly". Since I got no sound, I started using the onboard audio which is not as good as my old SBL. I especially miss the record "what u hear" and I'm a little worried about any games or other software being affected. I did open the case to make sure I mounted it in good. I hope I can get it to work and this is just a technical setback due to my ignorance.

System:
Motherboard: ASUS P5QL Pro
CPU: Q6600 Quad Core
4Gigs RAM
GPU: GTX 760
Windows XP SP3 (please don't tell me I need to upgrade)

Would the sound stop working because I moved the card to a different PCI slot? Is this a common thing that would happen? If I have to get another sound card I would prefer one that supports the "what U Hear" function in both XP and Windows 7. I plan on upgrading to a dual boot system soon. Any help is appreciated.

Slot may not be correct spec for the card. Motherboards have several PCI/PCIe slots but they are not all the same spec. Your board has the following expansion slots:

1 x PCIe 2.0 x16

2 x PCIe x1

3 x PCI

6 slots in total.
Sound card drivers are flaky, often when a card is moved to a new slot the drivers need to be reinstalled. The way you do this is first put your sound card back in it's original slot (important), Then uninstall all software and drivers for that card. Now remove the card and place in the desired new slot. Now reinstall the drivers and software for the card.
