Movies keep skipping

We have a 2tb seagate external hard drive and we plugged it in to my husband's computer and they now skip and the never skipped before. They played fine on his computer before and now they are not. And the same thing that goes for my computer. Any idea what could be causing this.

That is really unpleasant.

My suggestion would be to back up the data stored on the drive, as there may be something wrong with the drive. After that, you can test it and see if it is in a good condition: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
You can upload the screenshot of the SMART report to an image hosting website and post the link over here.

Do you have a spare USB cable? In case you do, you can attach the drive with a different cable as well.
