Hello,

Ive decided to move from the fx 6100 to the i7 4790k. I will sell my fx 6100 along with the motherboard and put that towards my upgrade so don't worry about price as ive noticed my fx 6100 just isn't performing anymore. I have looked at the fx 8350 and the power requirement would mean in a year or so the energy saving from the i7 would pay for itself so it seems like it's worth the upgrade.

My question is I am looking at these bundles on overclockers but I am not sure what MB to go with:

Asus Maximus VII Ranger - with the i7 4790k £ 365
Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK - with the i7 4790K £356
Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 7 - with the i7 4790K £351
MSI Z97M Gaming - with the i7 4790K £351
ASUS Z97 Gryphon Armor Edition with the i7 4790K £370

Which one would you recommend ? Is there another one around that with the i7 with a total price of around £400 max avaliable ?

I have a Hyper Evo 212 will that be compatiable ?

Solution
go with the maximus, i use the VI formula with a 4770k and have it running stable at 4.4Ghz. as someone mentioned above asus has great RMA policies.

also the maximus boards come with pre-set OC settings... so it's really idiot-proof overclocking. you find the setting that works well with your processor and is within your desired temp range and you're all set.

Ended up with the Maximus MB. Look's good and has a few good features. I liked the M2 slot which is good for the future so should last a good few years.

Can't wait to get rid of this FX 6100 tonight as it is definetly causing me issues with speed. Just opening Firefox and browsing webpage takes a good amount of time and as for gaming it's such a bottleneck

You'll be surprise big difference, I've got an M2 slot on mine Asus Z87-Pro I don't usually use it (it's good to have)

Yeah I have been doing some research as I was going to just upgrade to a FX 8350 but with the new i7 im looking at a 125% performance boost and over the FX 8350 over 50% for a lot less power which will pay for itself with the lower power requirement.

M2 is very handy to have with the fast speeds. The disks are relativly cheap I think a 256GB was around £180 which will continue to drop down so in a year or so that slot will be very handy.
