Moving HDD/Installing GPU

I just purchased an ASUS Radeon HD 7970 Matrix Platinum (£222 at Overclockers with 3 free games) and had a couple of questions related to the installation.

Moving HDD:

My case is a CM Storm Enforcer, and in order to fit the card in the case, the top HDD cage needs to be removed. This entails moving the HDD to the lower cage. Is it as simple as removing the cables, unscrewing the drive, screwing it in the new bracket, and reconnecting the cables?

Installing GPU:

When removing the old GPU, is the procedure simply removing the screws, unplugging the cables and pulling the card out of the PCIe socket? And the reverse when installing the new one?

Also, I have ordered a pair of anti-static gloves - I take it that is precaution enough with regard to handling the components?

Thanks.

Solution

Pretty much. Just remove an extra slot plate cover for the graphics card if needed.
The ASUS Radeon HD 7970 Matrix Platinum is a triple slot width card so you may have to remove one or more slot plate covers from the back of the computer case so that there are three open slots before installing the new graphics card.

Your power supply will also need to have at least two 8-pin PCI-E Supplementary Power Connectors for the graphics card. The power supply unit will also need to have a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps or greater.

I have a Corsair HX1000 1000W PSU, should that do the trick?

Yes.

Thank you. Are the procedures I outlined for moving the HDD and installing the GPU correct in your opinion?

Will do, Thank you very much.
