so i just bought a huawei laptop with a 256gb ssd. it's meant to replace my old lenovo with a 500gb samsung ssd. i would like to put the samsung in the new machine but i gather it's not as easy as swapping out one for the other without running into various problems. i think this means that i need to take the os etc from the 256gb ssd and put it all on the old 500gb ssd, whilest at the same time somehow leaving all the old stuff on the 500gb ssd intact; ie, all my files and pictures and videos and so forth.

how do i do that? or am i barking up the wrong tree?

thanks!

We have the two images saved to the external.
After the physical drive swap...we simply tell the Macrium software to use the Lenovo image for the Lenovo laptop, and the Huawei image for the Huawei laptop.
It does not matter which physical drive exists in each system.

Applying that Image to the drive wipes out what is currently on it, and it gets whatever we told it to use.

okay, thanks, i'm going to go drink now. whatta day. sorry to take up so much of your time. i think what we have here is just a basic failure to communicate. once i get good and soused, i'll reread this thread and see if everything clears itself up.

Ok.
But don't do this toasted. Clear minds are needed.

and now to add injury to an already injured day, i turned the new laptop over only to see that the screws are of the micro torx variety. and the nearest freaking home depot is an hour away. and i'm doubtful that it has torx drivers of that size. now i'm ***really*** going to drink.

HAHAHA
Sorry.

Get everything together before you start this process.

my neighbor had a Torx. Wonder of Wonders. And now all the screws are out of both laptops, only to find out that the SSD in the new laptop is an M2 and of course my old Samsung SSD is anything but an m2. God damn. This has been a really really bad day and now it's turning into an expensiver one. I give up. for now.

Well, that absolutely will not work.

So...change up.

New, larger, SSD for the Huawei, correct?

What happens with the Lenovo is irrelevant. You can leave it exactly as it is now. Leave it completely out of the equation.

Cut down steps from above.
Create the Image on the external drive
Swap the old m.2 with the new m.2
Boot from the Rescue USB, and tell it where the Image is to apply to the new drive in the Huawei.
Hit the Go button.
Done.
