Moving SSD (without Windows, just files) to a new PC

Hi,

I am currently in the process of building my new PC and have a question regarding moving my current SSD (that contains files, such as Steam games) to my new PC.

My new PC will have Windows installed on a new, separate SSD and will also have a 1TB HDD for extra storage.

So the main question I have is: If I move the SSD in my current PC to my new PC, will I be able to access those files or will I need to go through a process of formatting the SSD?

Thanks.

All you need to do is plug it in and you'll be able to access all the files on it. However, and programs you have on there will need to be reinstalled. If configure your Steam directory correctly and then tell it to install the game(s), it should detect the files already there and install without having to re-download.

Pop it in and it'll just show up as another drive with files on it. Your Steam library would need to go through a few steps if you intend on keeping it on that SSD. But in terms of access, no formatting of the drive is needed.
