My distributed transaction coordinator service will not start (it's on a
terminal server). I followed Article 279786 to uninstall and reinstall it.
It does not install successfully. The Event Viewer shows, "4106 Could not
install the MS DTC service." I'm thinking that I am missing some rights in
the registry because I had problems with registry rights when installing
another piece of software (even as Administrator). I tried running regmon
and filemon, but can't seem to figure out what is wrong. Does anyone have
any suggestions? Do I need this service?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Are you attempting to install the software whilst connected over a
terminal services session, or when you are physically at the machine.

Some software won’t install when you’re logged in using a terminal
services session remotely. You would have to be physically at the
machine.

I resolved the problem by granting rights to the SVCID key, which had lost
some rights...
