A friend asked for help with something so I directed them to safe mode via msconfig (I have no Windows 10 specific knowledge). Now they're stuck at safe mode log in screen with a mouse and keyboard that don't work.

I've tried

  • Forcing shut down in hopes of a "boot to normal mode" option. (Works in Win7)
    Top most USB ports/others
    Legacy Mode USB in BIOS
    Reseting BIOS to default

They don't have other mice or keyboards, they have no other computers, nor any installation disks.

Mouse: Logitech G502
Keyboard: Logitech G710
Motherboard: MSI Z170A SLI PLUS

Hello again Yellow Pylon

That's great!

This would save you a lot of time.

Also, if possible, please scan your system with the SFC command as well. I recommend this because even in safe mode, your PC should recognize the keyboard and mouse. If it isn't, there might be some issue with the driver files.

Yet another alternative after your keyboard and mouse start...
Hey viveknayyar007, thanks for the response.

The suggestions you gave are relevant to having the installation media, which as I said he doesnt have. Though, I did talk to him about that and he said he could try to get his Mother to bring her work laptop home, with which I imagine we can create the media.

Hello again Yellow Pylon

Instead of asking his mother to bring her work laptop, you can use any of your friends' laptop to create a Windows 10 Bootable USB.

Although this would be an installation media, you can use it to go to the Troubleshooting window using the Repair your computer option.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!! :)

Yet another alternative after your keyboard and mouse start working would be to:

> First remove the mouse driver from the Device Manager (keep your keyboard connected and working).
> Disconnect your mouse.
> Use the keyboard to shut down the PC. (Don't restart)
> Wait for 30 seconds.
> Reconnect your mouse.
> Start the PC.

Do the same with the keyboard while keeping the mouse connected.

Good luck!! :)
