You can either use the version of <A HREF="http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html" target="_new">msconfig</A> that came with a beta of WinXP, or install a third-party program such as <A HREF="http://mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml" target="_new">Startup Control Panel</A>. It's also possible to use <A HREF="http://www.techadvice.com/w98/M/MS_CONFIG.htm" target="_new">msconfig</A> from Windows 98, but I think the WinXP version is a better solution.

Install the file to C:\WINNT\system32. To use it, go to Start\Run, type msconfig and click OK.

If you prefer not to use these kind of options, you'll have to manually edit the Registry keys to remove files from loading at startup, since there is no equivalent command in Win2K.

Just drop it in your \Winnt\System32 directory.

From there it will open whenever you type MSCONFIG either in the start/run dialogue or from a DOS window.

You could also just left-click on the file once it is in the system32 folder, and drag a copy (a shortcut) to the Start button for easy access. Or right-click on the file, choose to make a new shortcut from the menu, and place the shortcut wherever you feel is most convenient. Then you won't have to fool around with typing the command at the Run line.
