Hey all,

So I bought a used 280X and installed it in my machine. When I first booted it up I noticed that one of the fans appeared to wobble when it spun and made a clicking sound unless I pushed up on the cooling solution near the edge of the case. I thought it was strange but not that big of a deal so I go ahead and install the drivers. I opened up MSI afterburner and HWMonitor and both of them reported an idle temp of 80C (yes, 80) and when I launch anything graphically intensive it shoots up to 100+. It did not shut itself down but I quickly closed the resource intensive program. It seems strange to me that the card would not shut itself down as a failsafe. Anyways, the fans ran at about 46% while at 80C and at 100% when it was momentarily at 100.

Manually setting the cards to 100% fan speed reduced the temp at idle by a few degrees.

I (maybe stupidly) touched the heatsink after this whole charade to see if it was actually working and it was very hot so it seems like it's doing something.

Maybe a temperature probe is broken or the Mobo isn't reporting the right temp?

Update: I zip tied part of the cooling solution in such a way that the clicking noise has stopped. I also cleanly installed drivers and the temps are much lower than before but still fairly hot. Around 50C idling and they get to 60 watching Youtube vids. The fans also seem inconsistent. Sometimes they stop moving altogether or spin slowly. They never look like they spin at the same rates. I'm leaning toward an RMA

Thanks in advance
