Hello, just built a new rig. Ran setup, installed windows, etc

Windows currently doesn't recognize that there is any ethernet connection at all. I have tried reinstalling the drivers from realtek, both the one on the disc and from their website, but every time i do it tells me " the realtek network controller was not found, if deep sleep mode is enabled please plug the cable"

What do I do?

Did you install the lan driver?

Go to your computer management. Hit start > Type in the search "computer management" once it's up go to Device Manager. If you see a Yellow ? you are missing that driver.

It's typically the lan one that people miss.

Looking at the Device Manager, and don't see any yellow ?. If it helps, I have the ethernet cable plugged in and there's no light like there normally would be even lit either.

Ya that's not a good sign. Is it the Ethernet port connected to the mobo? Or a discrete card? Check your connection to the router and or modem. Try connecting directly to the modem if it's connected to a router. Also verify that the cable works (use it on another pc etc.)

You should see lights. Blinking typically means data is being pushed around.

It's the ethernet port directly attached to the mobo. The cable does work, I'm using one that was connected to another computer with a working connection.

EDIT: Also, I put the drivers CD that came with the mobo back in just to see. The part where it says Chipset, VGA, LAN, etc, the LAN box is greyed out and I can't even click on it.

That's interesting. It has two RJ-45 ports on that board. Assuming neither are working.

You downloaded the driver from the website correct and transferred it over and installed it? Since you couldn't get it from the disk?

Maybe.. something in the bios is disabled? Honestly not real sure without seeing it at this point I'd wait for further comments from other members. Almost sounds like a bum board to me. I haven't had a board not recognize a Ethernet port.

So I've tried reinstalling the driver manually. A message comes up saying it failed to install, like the original message says. "if Deep Sleep mode is enabled yadayda. I've never heard of Deep Sleep mode in any computer I've messed with before.

Go to your bios and see if you can find anything pertaining to the Lan/Ethernet or the Deep Sleep mode. I haven't heard of it either.

To be honest I'm kinda at a loss... When you installed the chipset drivers that should have been able to recognize the network adapter and allowed you to install those drivers. Maybe contact MSI?

Not to sure where to go from here. Sorry man!

Hate to reopen this, but I just purchased a MSI X99S SLI plus MOBO, and i can see the Ethernet port in the devices list, but whenever I try to install the drivers from the CD, it says they installed, then I reboot and they aren't installed. I've gone through just about everything I can think of, and have had no success.

Note: I am using Windows server 2012 essentials R2
