Hello all. I have an msi b450 gaming pro carbon motherboard and i just ordered a gigabyte geforce rtx 4070 super eagle oc (12gb) graphics card.I used an asus rog rtx strix 2070super and want to upgrade it. i totally forgot what motherboard i have before i purchased the new grap card...do you think it will work? or better to buy a new motherboard also like b550 edition? im worried i will get the new card and its not gonna work. thank you for your help!

It will "work" with the b450, but will be limited to its PCIe 3 interface. So performance is limited. b550 has PCIe 4 interface, so you'll get mor performance outta that card rather than being bottlenecked to PCIe 3 speeds

EDIT: I hope you have the PSU sorted out according to the system's demand. A 650W+ would do, but if you have more power demanding components, go with a bit higher one for some headroom :) Also, go for a reputable brand, rather than cheaping out on it. (if you are gonna buy)

as long as you have a sufficient power supply with the proper cables the card would work fine.

whether you will get the max performance out of the new card is another issue.
what PCIe speeds does the board offer?
i believe its 32gb/s but its been long time im not following the tech :S

I have a corsair txm 750w psu so should be enough. The limited performance will be a lot? Or it will be like 10%? Sorry if i have stupid question 😶

it will bottleneck it about 5-10%.

i recommend reading some articles online and checking out their findings. most of them say its negligible, but some do say its about 10% and can affect games quite a lot. Since you have nothing to lose, why not try with your existing motherboard, and if there are performance impacts, switch to a new motherboard (which you were considering anyways) :)
