Hello

I Just did my first rebuild on my PC and am not really pleased with the performance when gaming.

My new setup is:
MOTHERBOARD: MSI B450 Tomhawk Max
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series Black DDR4 Desktop Memory 3200Mhz (2 x 8GB)

GPU1: Sapphire RX 570 4 gigabyte 1344mhz (factory overclock) installed in the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot (running at x8)
GPU2: Sapphire RX 570 4 gigabyte 1344mhz (manual overclock) installed on the PCIe 2.0 x16 slot (running at x4)

M.2 NVMe SSD: WD Black SN750 250GB (Gaming software only) mounted directly to the motherboard.
SATA HARD DRIVE: Apacer SSD 120 GB (operating system only)
SATA HDD: 500GB (General software)
SATA HDD: 500 GB (Documents drive)

PSU: EVGA supernova 850W G2

My old system was:
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA 970A D3P
CPU: AMD FX8320
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 Desktop Memory 1600Mhz (4 x 4GB)

GPU1: Sapphire RX 570 4 gigabyte 1344 Mhz (factory overclock) installed in the PCIe 3.0 x16 slot
GPU2: Sapphire RX 570 4 gigabyte (standard 1244 MHz ) installed on the PCIe 2.0 x8 slot

M.2 NVMe SSD: WD Black SN750 250GB (Gaming software only) mounted via a Pcie card adapter.
SATA HARD DRIVE: Apacer SSD 120 GB (operating system only)
SATA HDD: 500GB (General software)
SATA HDD: 500 GB (Documents drive)

PSU: EVGA supernova 850W G2

I have the latest Bios version in the motherboard.

What I am experiencing is slow load and stuttering and sometimes freeze which will only be resolved with a hard reset all on on my usual games like Destiny 2 and COD. (yet to try Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous or Assassins Creed) which were running well on the old setup.

Can anyone see any issues with the setup I have?

Thanks

Solution
Need fresh install of OS with new motherboard. Do that first.

Crossfire is not supported by most games anymore. Disable it if you have any issues with GPU performance.

Also, you didn't choose a very powerful CPU. it is more powerful than your old one, but not by much I would return it and buy this:

https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-Cooler/dp/B07XTQZJ28

$85 it is essentially a Ryzen 5 2600/2600x with lower clocks. It is actually a Ryzen 2000 series CPU, but named like an older CPU. It can be overclocked to outperform CPUs like the Ryzen 5 2600x.

Why is your windows installed on the HDD and not on the SSD? Thats the 1st problem I see.

The other problem is your running an APU to power your GPU. Meaning you have a 50$ cpu inside that APU (the APU is 99$ and half of it is the cpu so 50$) trying to run your GPU. I wouldnt be happy either lol.

make and model of the psu?
did you fresh install the os?
turn on the xmp/docp memory profile in bios?
what resolution?
turn with the 2 hdd unplug?

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

did you fresh install the os? - No
turn on the xmp/docp memory profile in bios? - xmp yes
what resolution? - using a Samsung TV at 1920x1080 at the moment
turn with the 2 hdd unplug? - do you mean try it with the HDD's unplugged? - will try tonight

Thanks

The OS is on a 6gbps sata SSD

DAMN! looks like i might have screwed up in my choice of CPU. (bit of a noob)
This is the first time i have heard mention of an APU!
I just finished some googling. on APU's
Would the APU integrated graphics be choking my GPU's?
Could the integrated graphics e disabled?
Should i expect better performance out of this rig as opposed to my old rig?

Thanks

Well let me ask, are you sure your monitor is plugged into the GPU and not the port on the motherboard for the APU?

Its a simple problem people have sometimes if theyre new to PCs.

If you ARE in fact plugged into the GPU, then yes the CPU inside of that APU could definately be bottlenecking your GPU. the 570 is a pretty decent card. Im just assuming that the CPU inside the APU is just not good enough.

We could find out easily though. What is your CPU and GPU usage % while gaming?

Ok i just had a quick run on Destiny 2 with the Radeon metrics on the screen -shows GPU and CPU % among other stuff.

CPU usage percent did not leave 0%
GPU usage went up to 100% fluctuating between the GPU's

Whats up with that??

Is my CPU turn down or off somewhere?

Thanks for that - would you mind taking a look at my suppliers site (I get a company discount through them) - they don't seem to have the one you suggested - perhaps you could recommend a different one? really appreciate the help :)

I am going to try and return the 3200g - I don't like my chances though.

Ah, the 1600AF seems to be most available in the US, not elsewhere.

Looking at that site, the 3200g is the best for the price, however I would buy a 2600 for a bit more.

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CPUAMD02600/AMD-Ryzen-5-2600-6-Core12-Threads-up-to-39-GHz-Max
Yay! I just got a reply from the supplier - I can return the CPU for an 80% refund - since the box is opened 🙄 so only another $60 ish to go to the Ryzen 5 2600!

Thanks sooo much for the advise :)

I have done a fresh os install and will be returning the cpu on monday.
I tried it with the current cpu and i am still having the same problems. although it is a lower power cpu it should run ok shouldn't it?

I found that the GPU in the pcie x16 socket can only run at x8 with this cpu - could this be the issue that is making the computer freeze up and require a hard restart?
