Hey guys, as I said in the title I am using a MSI B450 Tomahawk. Currently I have 2x4g sticks of 3000mhz ram installed. My family bought me 8 more gigs todays as a surprise but the only got 1 8g stick. It was an accident as they thought they were getting 2x4g. I tried to install it anyway and the computer wouldnt boot. My question is - is there something wrong with mixing different sizes of ram like this? I am using a ryzen 5 2600 cpu as well. All sticks of ram are patriot 3000m sticks as well. Any insight would be most appreciated!

Did you check that you didn’t mix the dual channeling?????????????? Doesn't Make sense.

Can't run Dual Channel with 2x4 and x8.

I must not be sure what exactly you are asking here. I thought maybe the dual channeling question had to do with which slots I have them installed in which is why I responded to the other question with the dimma2 and dimmb2 response. Is there some way I can turn dual channel mode off? And would that hurt the performance? Should I just take these back and get 2x4 sticks? Thanks for your patience. I am at the limit of my small amount of knowledge.

With those 3 modules mixed you can't run Dual Channel.

OK. So should I be able to turn dual channel off? And if so would that be a bad idea? This is a gaming PC so performance is always on my mind. If there is an option to turn off dual channel...would it be in the bios? Once again... thanks for your patience with my questions.

Or is it just that dual channel is what i get when I installed the 2x4 in dimma2 and dimmb2? it just operates that way? I am thinking this may be correct. So I probably just need another stick of ram then? I have never really understood how ram works so forgive my ignorance.
