Hi there,

I bought a second hand i5-3470 to upgrade to from my old i5 2310. Now i got to update the bios of my MSI H61M-E33 (B3) for the ivy bridge support. But when downloading the first BIOS update from the msi website(here) with ivy bridge support, moving the .exe file to a usb drive and running it (like the manual said) just reboots my system right back into windows, without updating the BIOS.

I allready tried updating to version 10.E (the latest bios without ivy bridge support) and then updating to 12.2. 10.E is working fine now but i still cant update to the newer BIOS.

Does anyone know any other solution i could try?

Thanks for any answers and sorry for my English.

MSI has a utility that it prefers to use to update the BIOS and other drivers called Live Update. I would suggest downloading that and running it. It should automatically detect that a BIOS update is available and allow you to download/install it within the app. Hope this helps!

Hi thanks for the reply.

I downloaded the utility, but for me there is no option to update the BIOS or even scan for a BIOS update. It looks different than the manual they provide where there is an option to search for a new BIOS. The only search options with the manual scan for me are: MB drive MSI utility and optional utility.

I also heard some bad story's about msi live update bricking some peoples motherboards.

Is there another way to install the bios update?
