Hey guys!

First time poster here but I have a bit of an odd/weird question that I'm looking into.

So I absolutely love my MSI laptop but it falls short on 2 parts. One i could care less about but the main thing is how muted the colors and display feels. The other is battery but like i said i could honestly care less and just keep my laptop tethered generally.

I know it is possible to upgrade panels on laptops but im a little confused on the in and outs of whats exactly replaceable/upgrade able in terms of the displays. I have found a few vendors offering better Color Gamut (from 42 to 72%) but I want to see if I can push for an upgrade to a 1440p QHD panel.

From the research ive done so far with the panel model number and looking on panelook.com for the panel N156HRA-EA1 (my laptops model) it seems to support eDP (4 Lanes) , eDP1.3 , 40 pins Connector but I still would rather make sure or get advice before making any decision or even a suggestion on a better panel I could look at.

From everything I can find online as long as the connector supports it, the voltage matches and the size is the same I should be able to slot anything in but it would be my first time doing a display UPGRADE instead of replacement.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys in advance!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

The advice given here also holds true for your laptop. If you're willing to void your warranty...you can contact the seller of the panels and ask them if it's compatible since they have access to that detail. To add, I wouldn't push the display beyond it's specifications. If there was a SKU that came in 1440p @144Hz refresh rate, then maybe but I wouldn't buy a laptop and then tear it down to replace hardware that would void my warranty. Ram and storage, perhaps but not the display.

If I needed a better display, I'd have returned the laptop and gotten something better. If the display is a critical factor in your purchase decision, then scoping out the laptop in person at a show floor is a good idea.

I appreciate the response!

For warranty that isnt an issue as it was purchased in december 2023 so my warranty is already over anyways. Im also not a newbie to repairs (i work as a phone repair tech) so im not too concerned with opening up my laptop and replacing a display or something.

From what MSI themselves show the display only has the option for my model for a single panel the one it has but browsing reddit and a few other places ive seen people successfully replace panels to higher tier panels on models that dont normally support it. So im mainly just looking for confirmation really before i start actively hunting a panel.

The laptop itself is quite nice but whoever designed it decided that a 45% NTSC on a laptop with a 4060 and a ryzen 7 7735hs was acceptable... So hardware wise for cpu and gpu i can certainly run higher tier panels no problem. But I obviously wouldn't want to break something badly by overvolting or something
