MSI Geforce GT 610 No HDMI Detected

I have just purchased a new video card, the MSI Geforce GT 610. I am not able to pick up my 22 inch Broksonic television. I do need to download a newer version of Geforce experience/driver however shouldn't my HDMI still pick up that i've plugged it into a television? I don't see that it has made a connection at all. I've used this tv on other computers succesfully however it is not working with this machine. any ideas?

I've booted up with the HDMI in and it has finally given me video. It now seems to be working properly. not sure what it was doing earlier when i did this. it gave me no video at all.
