MSI GTX 1060 3gb OC vs Gaming X

I'm looking at getting one or the other but the OC version is about £30-50 cheaper.

The stats are basically the same but could be matched thru tweaking. So what exactly is the extra money spent on the Gaming X version? Is it literally just the features that come with Gaming X and the fans?

The Gaming X has the superior cooler, so will run cooler and quieter.

Ok so let's say the £50 extra is worth getting the MSI GTX 1060 3gb Gaming X over the other model; it is the same price to the MSI RX480 8gb Gaming X lol. So same price with 5 extra gb of ram.

I've been reading a lot of various things about how on average the 1060 would out perform the 480 (albeit I'm not sure about the 3gb vs the 8gb) but how it is likely the RX 480 is better setup to overcome in future where the 1060 would have to be supported by drivers/software to compete. Such a difficult decision....

I would get a cheaper version of the 1060 6gb to be honest, its faster than the 3gb and has double the vram.

The vram is basically a non factor except for a random game here or there, but that is typically only an issue when setting to the most extreme settings in resolutions above 1080p.you turn one setting down by 1 notch and its no longer an issue. I am also trying to decide between the same type of thing.

The gpu im replacing is a msi gaming series and the build quality is amazing. I believe the lower end one does not have a back plate, but I could be mistaken. Outside of a few games the 1060 3gb beats the 480 8gb. If your playing in 1080p or 1440p vram shouldn't be an issue. Sometimes in 1440p u might have to keep the textures I think it is down 1 setting. Honestly u can't even tell the difference visually

Yeah theres only a handle of games where 3gb is a limit, but the 6gb version is still faster due to having more cuda cores than the 3gb version.

Only difference between gaming x and gaming I believe is the clock speed. As long as it's gaming series then your good, gaming is their highest line. both models appear to use the same type of fans.
