Hi, I did build a new machine last summer. I didn't had enough financial resources to buy a new GPU and I used my old 560ti as a placeholder for my new PC. I was saving for a GTX 970 but the issues on the forums about the vram made me a bit anxious. What do you guys think as of a good upgrade for my 560ti?

I plan on gaming @ 1080p atleast for the next 2 years
My specs are:

Msi Z97-g45
i7 4790K @ 4.4 Ghz
8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 2400 Mhz
Msi GTX 560 ti
250 GB Samsung Evo 840 + 1 TB WD blue
Corsair RM 1000 <-- i know its overkill I bought it for 90 euro's so it was a great deal.

Wait a bit until the story about 970 comes clean, if not the R9 290x should be at around the same price point. And I read they were lowering prices a bit after the 970 story came to surface. Hold 3 or 4 weeks more and then decide.

And about the 290x probably an Asus model with DirectCU II should be the best bet if you go down that path. Just search for reviews of the model.

the 970 / 980 cards are still great purchases - there are some issues with coil whine, so if you buy one ensure you make sure you are lucky enough to get one without this issue.

there are not a lot of other worthwhile "new" cards out at the moment

I did think about the AMD side. But I have a Corsair Graphite 230t Case. Don;t know if it will fit :)

Your case supports 360mm cards so a R9 290 or 290X will fit.
