MSI GTX 750ti will not start up properly with HP 3400

After installing my MSI N750 Ti 2GB on my computer and switching to legacy mode on the cards BIOS switch I can't get past the blue HP boot up screen followed 30 seconds later with a black screen and a cursor at the top left of the screen. However , I managed to the computer running with the card by having VGA adapter unplugged from the card before turning it on. After the computer beeps 6 times with an orange light on after start up I plug the VGA cable back into the card and after 30 seconds followed by a beep the computer starts up fine with the Windows 7 start up. Although it seems to work fine after doing this process , I would like to have it start up normally without having to plug in a cable every time to make it work.

8GB of RAM
I5-2300 @ 2.8GHZ
1TB HDD
Cupertino2 Intel H61 LGA 1155 motherboard with 7.16 version BIOS
Running on Windows 7 64 Bit

Check if there is a BIOS update for the motherboard. Could be just a board incompatibility with the card or a power supply issue.

I already have the most recent version of the BIOS on the computer and as for the power supply the card works just fine with the method I used to make it work. Again , the only way I manage to get this to work is connecting the VGA cable to the card after the computer beeps 6 times during boot. I prefer the computer to boot up normally with just the press of a button.

if not, then it a common not supported card in a prebuilt as a lot find out the hard way

some models of store bought computers [dell.hp,acer,ect..] may come with a ''locked or fixed'' / legacy or uefi bios and may not allow you to change certain hardware as a video card.. this is done to protect them from undue warranty claims and refunds .this is not done to hurt you but to protect them. you really need to see if that upgrade has been proven to work in your model first before you invest money in it .. there are a lot of these threads here at toms to look at some models will allow upgrades and some dont.. and a lot of guys here say ya ya ya when is really no no no...it would be sad you spent $200 on a card that won't post after you installed it as most find out. then get told its your psu and you spend more and end up right back where you are now, but its up to you good luck..


you got to know the boards in these computers are not like the ones we use to do custom builds witch are open to upgrading with in the boards compatibly . the bios is custom made for there design and just for the parts they authorize to be used on there computers there only guaranteed to work as is out of the box as you bought it ,..


also these boards do not have to meet atx standards and there pci-e slot power may not do the required 75w needed for most higher end cards and can be limited to say 45 or 60w that is all thats needed with the low end factory oem cards that it may of shipped with

in the end any upgrade you do is all your own risk . the prebuilt manufactures only guarantees there computers work as sold to you as is out of the box from there factory with what they put on it , not a drop more

there in business to sell you whole ready to go computers , and dont worry about you upgrading them or giving you support to do so . thats not how they make there money they prefer you run to wal-mart and buy there ''better'' latest models


like here maybe a model that only can take a 600 series or below card from NVidia 700 series and above maybe not compatable

This method works without unplugging/plugging the video cable from the VGA adapter , and there's an important infrormation i've quoted from the video description that may help:

"You can just press Alt + F10 to boot it without the crackling noise. Pressing F12 without touching Esc also seems to work for some.
Simply just pressing F1 works, too"

Note that it may take a while for your PC to boot (about 2 minutes) , but at least you don't have to plug/unplug any cable everytime again.
