I am thinking about purchasing an MSI GTX 960 100ME and a AMD FX 8320 in my new PC. This PC will also have 8GB of RAM. How many watts should my PSU have?

Thanks -DevinDerps

Well the question here is if you plan to overckock.
If you do not you are good to go with a good 550W.( I run 2X GTX 970 in SLI and i have a 750W PSU and my watt calculator which i have on the wall say i draw about 650W maximum and also Psu's don't work best at 50-80% actually the work less efficiently when they are a total overkill . https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lqThn3C-zg4 this video explains why skip to 1.30)
If you do overclock you want about 600-650W.
Also here are 2 link to help you pick the right PSU the first one is to calculate the total watt you want ( at the field which says capacitor aging put 20% and put the usage to all...

A quality 550watt PSU will work great for your system. XFX makes a very good one, I also like EVGA and Seasonic.

With just the parts mentioned that is already exceeding 400 watts that plus other parts and the 50-80% thing, at least 650-750 watt.

I did not intend to argue with your reasoning and preferred methods, I still do not wish to. If you are getting a questionable quality power supply that is a good rule of thumb but not all power supplies run better at 50%. There is really no reason to have your system running at 50% of your total rated usage, in fact it can cause problems. The better rule of thumb is to have your total system usage at about 75% of your rated power supply, it can be even higher for gold and platinum rated power supplies.

Just his card and processor are going to pull down 245 watts. The rest of his system should have him running at a cool 325 watts max. Well within range of a 550 watt power supply with enough headroom to play around with mild overclocks on his processor and GPU.

Here are several options to chose from

So he is right with 550-600W you are just fine

I have same setup: AMD FX-8320, MSI GTX 960 Gaming 4G, board MSI 970 Gaming, Kingstone HyperX 1866 2x4GB, 2 HDDs... and 600W PSU... computer runs great 24/7 until i start some game - FarCry4 or GTA V..... PSU shuts down after couple of minutes (sometimes after 5 mins, sometimes after hour of playing) - everything stops including fans, only power led is blinking... cant "power off" computer by holding power button... i have to unplug the power cord or turn off psu switch for few secs to restart the PSU... case and cpu are very good cooled, no overclocking here... must be a weak PSU, going to buy a 750W one
