Hello, new to Toms Hardware so excuse the bad thread etiquette, but im having a bit of an issue and its becoming quite ignoring.

(could totally be a mistake on my end so help me out.)

..Decided to build a new PC .....grabbed all the parts .....Put it together everything seems to be working fine, however when playing some games i would loose sound and the screen would stutter or slow in movement. I figured this to be something wrong with the card since it was a refurbished GPU. Sent the card back for repairs twice only to have the same issue. figured i purchased a new card would have better luck..

Fast forward to new card.... no stuttering or slowing of movement on the screen however i still dont have sound in certain games. Some games like warframe for instance. I have to go into the settign and turn the default sound to that of the TV's name. it wont just pick up the default. any help would be wonderful.

P.S. my card isnt connected directly to the mother board i wonder if this may be reson for the loss of sound.

Solution
OK, So bottom line it was the way the GPU was mounted; that is what we have declared. After all the troubleshooting it was something as simple as it needing to be directly mounted to the board. So with the Thermaltake Core P-5 case be aware of the PCI extension as it can be the reason for some sound lost or other sound conflicts.

I uninstalled drivers, upgraded and down graded OS. For it only to be a simple mounting hang up.

I will be buying another PCI extension soon to retry the mount because it looks awesome that way, however im in no rush as i havent evenn gotten to break in the rig yet so ill use it the way it is for the time being.

Pictures are of the current mount..

thanks again for those that help me out

This sounds like a driver/ configuration issue. Do you have multiple sound outputs connected simultaneously? (like: TV, headphones, speakers)

If so, then, in Windows, next to the watch in the bottom right corner, right click the speaker and select "Playback Devices". You will get a list with all the outputs available, right click each of the outputs that you don't want to be used and select "Disable". They should all be greyed out and only the one that you want playing should be left. This should solve the issue.

I also remember having a similar issue when using the HDMI cable on the video card as the only sound output. Windows sounds drivers would conflict with the video card sound drivers and I ended up with no sound playing from time to time. I don't remeber exactly how I fixed that, but I think it was something like: disabling either the Windows sound driver or the HDMI sound driver.

First thank you for your time to respond, second i have done the disabling dance and i have only the Nvidia High Def audio as my default playback device. so sound comes directly from the TV, via HDMI connected to the sound card. So your second mention i feel is more closely related to my problem.

Think you could remember how you got around that little problem. I will try try to disable the windows sound driver and leave the card driver to see if that fixes my problem. I will take a leap and guess i need to go to the device manager to do this?

Nope, I went into the device manager disabled the devices, restart my system and tried to use only one still the same issue. Then i uninstalled them all, the main one reinstalled its self and still the same issue which is along the lines of:

something hanging up with the GPU, for example i will start a game sound will be playing and then there come a stutter and then the sound goes out along with it.

Im trying to fix this one myself but the PC service store is looking pretty good right now hahahahaha.

I hope that you find a fix; but please don't buy a new card since this is clearly a configuration issue where everything is trying to override everything. Ride it out until you find the fix ;). That's all that I could suggest. You could try to reinstall Windows but I doubt that will solve anything. Good luck and all the best!

Thanks, well i had already purchased a new version of my card and its clearly the same thing (this was done before you suggested) kinda new it would be the same but i just had to rule it out heck now i can SLI in the future if i want. Granted from what i read most games arent even optimized for it. However i still have time to return the card.

Also i still didnt find a fix i actually just said F it and took it to the local comp store see if the guys ther can do the driver dance better than me.

My last option will be to do the complete reinstall windows..

Thanx again ill update in a couple days if your curious as to what the solution is.
