MSI gtx 980 ti gaming temperature

Hello guys, Today I got my MSI 980ti gaming, I was just looking at the temperature. It was about 50-52 at idle. The fans were off. On the stress test at 1080 AA x4 tge temp maxed on 77.

In two other reviews it was mentioned that the idea temperature is 33.
So is this normal or is there something wrong with the card?

77°C is ok for temp under load. Idle is a bit high. Whats the temp of the room its in? In guru3ds review the card idled at 33° but the room temp was also 20-21°C. If your room is hotter the card will run hotter.

Good load temp but really the idle is based on the airflow in your case and your ambient temp.

Hey guys thanks for the replies.

I have the Stryker case and all fans are working fine.
I think the room temperature is 25c not more.

Maybe it's because the fans are turning off?
Should I make a custom profile to keep them running?

If you are bothered you can download MSI Afterburner and set a custom fan profile there but the card is performing normally.

so ya, the problem is with the fans turning off.
I did the profile a couple of hours ago and the temp is 28-30 now.
Here are my setting, i'm not sure if they are the best but if the card gets hot during gaming i'll let you guys know.

I have a quick question, I ran the stress test again. On the previous setting it hits 77c but now it does not go above 70.
I know this is because of the fans throttling up (60%-70%).

Will this high throttle damage the card in the long run or is it okay? and what should be the normal fan speed while gaming?

The reason the fans turn off is to preserve their life expectancy and give you a more silent rig. Really there is nothing to worry about what ever idle temp you get just as long as load temps are not reaching max which is mid 90's.

I really dont mind the noise as long as the card is running cool. I got my headsets on so I dont hear the noise besides its not loud

I've got a 980 Ti as well and we have very similar temps. I idle around 47 and It jumps up to 77 under load. I haven't seen it go higher than 77.

77 is nowhere near dangerous, but I agree that this card runs hot.

Edit: I've played around with the fan speed in MSI Afterburner and my max load temp dropped to 64. My curve is 50% speed at 50 degrees and 80% speed at 73 degrees.

If you have 120 or + Hz monitor then the power usage of the card is somewhat 10% which results in 50+ 'C temp. If you change your monitor refresh rate to 60Hz then you'll see your temps idling in 40s
