Hey Guys,

So basically my MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming runs like crap. I game at 1600x900 (I know) and my average fps on ultra is considerably lower than benchmarks using reference cards at 1080p! Some 1440p benchmarks outperform mine with the same CPU (i5), heres an example:

This is literally my card and how it should perform on avg:

So I was just wondering, do I have a defective card? Are Nvidia's drivers for 1600x900 absolute horse-shit (doubt that)? What do you think I should do?

Completely new install of Windows (new HDD) wiped everything from my old HDD, so there should be no other drivers messing with the Nvidia ones.

Corsair CX600 80Plus Bronze. Plenty of power for the 145w TDP of this card. I'm just updating all my drivers for everything else, maybe my BIOS drivers are throttling the card?

Yeah make sure the bios is up to date and that there's no throttling going on. Is there anyway you could try the card in a different computer? Then you could easily rule out if its your card or your computer causing the problem.

Not at the moment bud, I'd have to go see a friend, this build replaced my old pc :/

You're welcome, try a synthetic benchmark like unigine valley and use msi afterburner to monitor cpu and gpu usage then report back with your findings.

Ok, I'll get on that right away :cheese:

Okie dokie, I've done the Unigine benchmark and everything is quite... underwhelming. Interesting thing I noticed; my GPU memory clock speed only hit 3505 Mhz.

Anyway the benchmark at 1600x900:

That's the problem, I don't have a reference benchmark for 900p ._. I haven't ran a Heaven benchmark yet, I'll get on it right now.

Specs:

CPU: i5 4670k @ 3.4Ghz - Stock cooler
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM 8GB @ 1866Mhz CL9
GPU: MSI GTX 970 4G Gaming
Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X-SLI
PSU: Corsair CX600
HDD: #1 - WD Blue 1TB 7200RPM
#2 - Seagate 500GB 7200RPM
Monitor: HP 2009V

I'll download the driver. (EDIT: cpu is 3.4Ghz)
