MSI GTX980TI Core Clock fluctuations and performance issues.

Hey guys, new here!

So recently I got myself a MSI GTX980 TI, upgraded from an R9 290x and I've been noticing some odd perfomance issues.

Here's some of my specs:

Asrock H71M-DGS Mobo + i5-3470 CPU
8GB ram
GTX 980TI
Windows 10 Home 64-bit

Drivers are all updated.

Here's the gist of it.

Fallout 4

In this game, The core clock is generally about 1354mhz and it runs at a smooth 60FPS (Vsync on).
Sometimes however, the core clock dips every two minutes or so and the core clock drops to about 1180mhz and the frame rate is around 50-54fps.

I'm running F04 on ultra with godrays set to low.

Borderlands : The Pre Sequel

Should be running this game fine and it does.
Playing on max settings and generally getting about 89-100+ fps but its a similar case to fallout 4.
The frame-rate is completely stable at 1354 Mhz but as soon as the core clock dips to 1180, the frame-rate immediately drops to 47-56fps and in about 30 seconds or so returns to the 80-100fps and 1354mhz clock.

Hitman : Absolution

Game runs fine and is mostly at 1354 Mhz. (Only tried the first stage though.)

FPS is around 130-150 on high settings.

Dota 2

Game runs at about a 100FPS and at 1140MHZ clock speed.

Crysis 3

Tried this game as well, frame-rate is smooth but it has the same clockspeed drop issue

This is all in 1080P by the way.

I've also checked temperatures.
Set the fan to 75 and the GPU runs not too hot generally staying under 65C.



Any Ideas as to what could be the issue?

Tried setting fan speeds to 75 to keep the GPU cool, no dice.

I have a similar problem with my r7 370, not to that extreme but my core clock fluctuates from 1020 to 925 but for me it stays like that for 10-20 minutes. IN my case I dont know if my card is just reverting to silent mode or what, but its doing it while I'm playing games under 90+ load.
