Pluged in, APU overclocking is still an option - even without increasing the voltage.
Or go the APU undervoltig route without decrease clockspeed - so the APU won´t throttle so much.
Just my two cents...

Hi Tom's, I have recently purchased the MSI GX60 Hitman Edition and have been running BF3 and Crysis 2 in multiplayer online. Can you tel me what settings you used in Catalyst Control Center and in Windows 8 Power Settings for the BF3 benchmarks you ran? I can achieve framerates around 30 in Ultra on BF3, but the rates do still drop to around 20 at certain points on certain maps. I do not get the high framerates you seemed to get in your benchmark, even though I have an A10-5750M processor, which should be even more capable than the A10-4600 in this review model. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That APU, sorry to the amd fans, is really hindering CPU heavy games like MMOs. I get those same scores on WoW with my sandy bridge i7 with a far inferior GPU the 540m.

[citation][nom]oj88[/nom]It is not explained by the author in the "Interior: Teardown Images And Components" that the a10-4600m can be removed and replaced by an a10-5750m under the heatsink. Also the keboard can be replaced by a backlit keyboard. All these upgradabilities make GX60 attractive to mobile gamers.[/citation]

Thank you AMD & MSI !!

(Now .... about that drop-in Kaveri mAPU ...)

Benchmarks are completely off. I'm trashing those with my a10-5800k without a dedicated GPU. Tom is cheating us on this review.

Yeah. Probably. But to Tom's 100% defense, you cannot compare desktop to mobile.

And, the potential to drop-in even a gimped Kaveri APU is :bounce:

We're counting on you, MSI !

This is a great laptop but, again, why don't they stick these components in a 17.3" 18.4" chassis. Given the money in Alienware, Sega, Asus, MSI laptops, I wonder why Lenovo and Acer don't make a £1000 gaming laptop with all the styling, etc. I've been looking for a gaming laptop for the last 2 years. In the UK the high end machines are £1250-£1600 just for the entry-level. Alienware usually want £1300 just for their entry-level model with the 660.

[citation][nom]Cryio[/nom]This notebook is a ridiculous concept to me. Its greatest achievements are its price and its performance where it matters: maxed-out directX11 games in 1080p, working as good or BETTER in most of the cases than its Nvidia sibling. Its greatest disadvantage being its gaming ability is limited in anything under 1080p (still talking only about games here). One hell of a laptop for me, if I could afford when, when I'll go to college this Octomber.[/citation]

sorry, that part just cracked me up.

Now that I have taken a good look at the MSI GT60-2od and GT70-2od, I have to make another comment. There is in a shared heatpipe between the GPU and CPU since the Nvidia 780m takes more like 120 watts and the CPU 47 watts (when Optimus is on). So cooling is enhanced with the Intel/Nvidia models. But, then the 180w AC adapter is inadequate, which is why they included a technology call "Hybrid power", which takes some power from the battery when total power consumption of the laptop exceeds 180 watts. Sounds cheap to me, why not include a 240w ac adapter so we can overclock and utilize all the cores for whatever we want to do, and be able to charge the battery all at the same time?

I really hope AMD makes some 45w mobile CPUs/APUs. a max TDP of 35w is quite pathetic. It just hurts them even more since they can't make a chip that takes as much power as an Intel mobile CPU at full load, PLUS AMD's lithography cycle is behind Intel so there CPU does less work per clock and their mobile CPUs are actually clocked slower than Intel's, which is opposite compared to the desktop chips.

How does this stack up to the next generation of consoles, specifically PS4. I have a chance to get one for 800 but I want to make sure I'm able to at least play PS4 games at medium/low.
