I have a MSI H55-GD65 motherboard currently using an Intel i3 540. I purchased an Intel i7 870 off ebay, refurbished, from a reputable seller who says that the chip was pulled from a working system and verified as working before shipping it out. Unfortunately, I can't get the system to boot.

I've updated my BIOS to 1.6, which is the latest version available:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H55GD65.html#down-bios

I've verified that the CPU is compatible with this motherboard:
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/H55GD65.html#support-cpu

I'm not sure it matters, but this is the RAM I'm using:

This is the video card:

And this is the PSU:

As soon as I install the i7, the system won't even post - screen goes black, then "no signal", no beeps, nothin'. I've swapped back to the i3, and it fires right back up. I've also tried:

- Turning off the machine, unplugged.
- Pull out i3
- Pull out CMOS
- Install i7
- Wait an additional 5 minutes to make sure everything's completely powered off
- Put CMOS battery back in
- Power on....nothin'
- Take out i7
- Put in i3
- Boots fine

Completely at a loss here - am I missing something incredibly easy? The only other thing I can think of is that the RAM isn't compatible with the processor, but I've never come across this issue before.

Thanks in advance for any insight / help!

I think the i7 870 may have problem. contact seller for return. Because 1) the MB had the newer BIOS for the i7 870, 2) you can boo the PC with i3.
Thanks cin19!

Yeah - I'm opening a return request now. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything with compatibility, especially since the seller has great feedback and claims it was pulled from a working system.
