[citation][nom]JustPosting77[/nom]$1299.99........Affordable???.....That is NOT affordable! Affordable is like $3-400.00, wth Tom's? Are you guys not based in the US? Do you guys not understand how poor most of the country is right now? I'm very happy with my Dell e6410 "metal" cased laptop that I got for $275, or something around there and it plays everything at an exceptable frame rate. Wow... just... WOW![/citation]

There are typos like what can be found in most Tom's articles, but then there's spelling acceptable as "exceptable"... Also, I'd say that under $600 or thereabouts is affordable for a gaming laptop, not under $400.

[citation][nom]otacon72[/nom]Gaming and APU two words that should never be used in the same sentence..lmao. Whoever buys that thing needs to have their head examined.[/citation]
whoever makes retarded comments should read the whole article before hitting the submit button.

this has an A10 APU(with its IGP off) paired with a 7970M. priced at $1299, this is affordable compared to other gaming laptops. the A10 cpu is no pushover and the 7970M is definitely very good. an A10 with a 7970M would run just about anything on max settings 45+fps.

an alienware with a 7970m would cost $2100 and the cheapest 15in origin laptop with 7970m would cost $1700 with an i5 dual core. when comparing the price/performance, this gx60 is a great deal if your into laptop gaming.

Except that Sandy Bridge processors, are APUs.....Ivy Bridge processors, are also APUs....Haswell, will be APUs as well....

I bought an HP laptop with an A10 and added a 256GB SSD and 8GB of good, low latency DDR3-1600. The total cost came out to about $1000, but it was absolutely worth it, that thing absolutely screams, and gets 5-8 hours battery life depending on what you're doing.

For me $1300 is affordable. Then again I only replace my laptops every 4 or 5 years. That said I love the specs ... except for the 15" screen. Not going on my to buy list since I will only accept 17" or bigger.

[citation][nom]HungryFiend[/nom]Seems really expensive for a laptop with a trinity in it considering the desktop ones are about $130[/citation]

Laptops use higher binned hardware than desktops, include peripherals built in, include a display built in, and also usually include more such as WiFi cards, battery systems, storage, and such all built in. Of course they're more expensive than desktops, they fill a different and more expensive niche.

Furthermore, the same is true for any other platform with laptops versus desktops too. A SB/IB laptop will also cost much more than a similarly performing desktop with otherwise similar equipment and this goes for any other platform too.

[citation][nom]lpedraja2002[/nom]What would make this affordable is a good 720p Display, 4gb RAM, 500gb Hard Drive (preferably 7200rpm), AMD 7970m and AMD A10 APU all for $650 to $700![/citation]Highend discrete mobile graphics are hella expensive. The closest you'll get in that price range would be to take an HP laptop (like the G7Z-2200) and configure it with an A10-4600M and 7670M. Dual graphics comes into play in that case, though, so at least the 384 shaders in the A10 can help in a lot of titles.

You got to read this article and place your order faster for by the time you reached the last line, price went up by about 100 bucks. I'm not really sold on the idea of gaming on a laptop.

If I'm looking for gaming on a budget I could sacrifice the "Full HD" 15-inch screen since its so small to me that it doesn't matter. Mobile Gaming on a cheap budget imho should be all about the best CPU and GPU you can get for cheap and everything else barebones.[/citation]
The thing is if there is only 720p screen, the 7970m will be very under utilised.

That's what MSAA and such is for 😉 It more or less makes up for the low resolution while making use of much more performance than merely maxing out texture settings. I'd prefer a higher native resolution, but it's not like it wouldn't be a decent solution should a mere 720p display be given as the only option.

[citation][nom]slabbo[/nom]wouldn't this be an affordable gaming laptop? Actually this seems like really inexpensive gaming laptop to me.http://www.frys.com/product/7162082$499 for A10 laptop.[/citation]

Thanks for that link, I have a friend that's looking for an a10 setup and this looks like it just might fit the bill, especially since I haven't been able to find anything that hasn't been around the $700 mark.

Speaking from inexperience I suppose? I bought my daughter an A8 laptop last year for approx $350.00, thanks to Black Friday. She plays The Sims 3 and many of the expansion packs, think about 6 at last count, on it with absolutely no problems but other laptops costing more than that were having difficulties even getting it to play nicely. Have you even tried to play with a computer with a good APU? Probably not, otherwise you wouldn't be throwing around your opinions like you actually knew what you were talking about.

So people say $1200 is expensive for this gaming notebook but $1699 for a Macbook Pro to check Facebook, Email, and iTunes is ok?

$1200 is NOT affordable by the average PC gamer looking for a portable gaming platform..... An "affordable" gaming laptop should have roughly the following specs:

Screen: 15.6" [1366 x 768 / 1440 x 900] [Anything more is not practical and plain overkill for an "affordable" gaming laptop]
CPU: i5-3380m or i5-3340m (2.9 and 2.7Ghz respectively)
GPU: AMD 7850M 2GB DDR5 VRAM.
RAM: 6GB DDR3 @ 1600 Mhz.
HDD: 500GB - 750GB WD Blue Scorpion 7200RPM.
Keyboard: Traditional qwerty keyboard layout (No num pad to cut cost)
Misc Ports: -Two USB 3.0, two 2.0 ports, HDMI, Audio out/mic jack, standard 480p webcam, etc.

This should be in the price range of $649.99 - $749.99 USD/CDN. THAT'S affordable.

I'd say switch out the 1280x1024 with 1366x768 or such for the lower resolution. A 5 by 4 resolution seems nonsensical IMO, especially in a laptop.

Also, are there even any versions of the Radeon 7850M that supports that memory capacity? I thought they only have 1GB and 2GB models.

Sorry for the confusion. That was meant to be a general guideline for an "affordable" gaming laptop, at least in my mind. And yes, I would take out the 1280 x 1024. I'm leaning towards 1440 x 900 rather than 1366 x 768. The resolution difference is very noticeable between the two on a 15.4" screen. As for the 7850M, I would have to say 2GB of DDR5 vram. Thanks for pointing that out.
