"Over current detected on USB connections. System will now power off in 15 sec to protect main board!"

This is the error I get when trying to boot. I can't access bios or anything. This is a brand new motherboard (miss z270 Gaming m7) but I'm shocked (no pun intended) that it's not working.

I even tried to "bare boot" this by placing the motherboard on a cardboard surface with nothing else but the ram and cpu and psu.

All parts are new.... this sucks I might go get the Asus Strix :/

OK, this thing happens on MSI motherboards. I have experienced this too. No need to panic, there is nothing wrong with your motherboard.

Open your motherboard manual and the graphic showing "Connectors Quick Guide" or similar. There should be one or more connectors labeled as "JUSB_PWx" - they are waht MSI calls them USB Power Jumper. Find the page on your manual where these are described. Open that page and check if those jumpers are in their default positions.

In my case, I used to take one of these jumpers out to short the CMOS reset connectors and put it back after shorting CMOS. However, at one time I put it into wrong position and experienced this same message and all hell broke loose. After a long search I found out a post...

In my case, I used to take one of these jumpers out to short the CMOS reset connectors and put it back after shorting CMOS. However, at one time I put it into wrong position and experienced this same message and all hell broke loose. After a long search I found out a post hinting this - and to my surprise found that I had misplaced the jumper. I put the jumper to its default position and motherboard still works problem free for a year now, never seen that message again.

On my user manual it says:

"These jumpers are used to assign which USB and PS/2 ports could support "Wake Up Event Setup" field of BIOS.

Important : If you set the jumper to Enabled, the power supply must be able to provide at least 2A currents".

Hope it helps.
