So, I bought a MSI MAG A850GL a month or two ago, and the PSU started making this noise from time to time. The PSU is installed vertically.

The noise keeps going when I turn off the PSU. Only after I unplug it from the wall, it stops making the noise after a minute.
When I turn the PC on again, it doesn't make that sound anymore. Even if I run a game/Blender for a long time. It just feels random when it happens... This time I was just browsing when the sound started.

I'll send it to RMA soon as I can't return it anymore, do you guys have any idea of what the issue is?

That's PSU coil whine. And one of the worst i've heard as well.

Could be that ALL MSI A850GL PSUs are prone to coil whine when mounted vertically, whereby replacement PSU doesn't fix it. In this case, better to switch brand. E.g Seasonic Focus/Vertex/PRIME, Corsair RMx/RMi/HXi/AXi or Super Flower Leadex series.

Coilwhine can be this loud? o_O The strange thing is that it doesn't make this sound normally. It's the second time it happens, and it was random. Otherwise, the PSU is silent even under load.

My previous PSU had a constant subtle coilwhine but nowhere near the loudness of this one.

It can be one of three:
1. PSU coil whine
2. PSU fan bearing
3. PSU fan blades hitting the fan frame

Now, if it would be fan blades hitting something, you'll hear it all the time fan is spinning. And the faster the fan spins - the faster the "rhythm" of it.
Doesn't sound like fan blades hitting something.

Fan bearing noise is usually dull crackle and mostly happens in specific RPM range when fan spins. Also, flipping the PSU switch would stop the fan and the noise. But this isn't the case for you.
So, bearing noise it isn't either.

Coil whine is certain frequency audible hum/screech. Which is constant and doesn't change in frequency or pitch.
GPU coil whine usually changes by pitch, based on what load GPU currently has on it.
My ear says that you have PSU coil whine issue.

Here is more about coil whine + audio samples and while video talks mainly about GPU coil whine, same is true for PSUs too;
