Hi all,

I have bought new components to update my PC including my MSI board to set up my new desktop.
I have an SSD with windows already from my old setup.
After setting up the build I am trying to installing win10 64 using a USB drive.
The preparation for the install via USB goes as normal however after the pc reboots and prepares installation and boots from my hard drive the install freezes in the moving circle in splash screen.
Iread through forums etc) with no result:
1)Assemble and disassemble the pc again to ensure all components are working properly.
2)Switch Ram locations and tried single ram units in each of the slots to check faulty ram slot or ram unit
3)switched drives (checked with SSD and HDD/the same result)
4)checked boot with both UEFI and CSM
5) Tried different USB sticks to boot windows
6)Unplugging all USB devices prior to boot from the drive (just in case)

Please I would be grateful for some tips as I am tring not to grab my PC and check if it learns to fly via the nearest window.

My setup is:
MSI MAG B560m mortal wifi
i9 11900k
2x16gb 3600 Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

Gigabyte Geforce gtx 1660 super OC 6gb
SSD sandisk 250gb (windows 10 installed)
SSD samsung EVO 870 120 gb
HDD 4tb WD Black
WD 1TB
PSU: Corsair CX 600m

Parts in bold text are new.
I checked and before buying and everything is compatible.

is windows still installed on the other drive?
remove the old one and reinstall windows to the new one

update the BIOS of the motherboard
Yes it is installed in one of the SSDs but it tries to do a repair as if there was a power surge and it freezes exactly in the same way as if I was trying to install from a usUSB.

(I just updated the post to save time for others.)

tune the memory speed to 3200 mhz

if the 250gb is a old windows 10 then you will need to format the drive. before using the usb installer.

when installing windows 10

the boot order should be the following

the usb windows 10 installer as boot option 1

and the harddrive you intent to use for windows 10 as option 2.

You should only have 1 drive connected the 1 your installing windows on.

Why are you using a very low quality 10 year old power supply.
I tried using each storage unit separately just to see if anything worked.
But now have only the one with windows on and a newly formated bootable usb.

The power supply I had it on the same computer and has never had a single problem. And I kept it since it was compatible with everything else.

This is not a new rig is an update of a few parts but everything worked really well. I just wanted to give my PC some TLC.

Yes because it's trying to run windows 10 of the drive not the usb. With the installer on it

A whirling circle is a sign that a windows is on the drive which means boot priority Is wrong.

That or you still have a windows 10 os installed on a drive and it's trying to load and looking for drivers that dont exist format both SSD of windows before using the installer.

Ok, I did this and it didn't work. (same results sadly) and even formated an SSD and it didn't work.
Cant get pass the Whirling circle for 1 sec and then freeze. (only thing that had an installer was the USB in this case)

7 sec video showing what is happening
Then I got an open source program to make bootable USB that works with ISOs and got the same result.

It is very strage.

ok that is your issue a iso is not what your trying to make in windows boot media you are wanting to make the following

Step 1

format usb make sure it is at least 8-16gb make sure its formated fat 32. then do the following

Create Windows 10 installation media

step 2

accept terms

choose create media usb etc

click next

step 3

unltick the box
saying use the recomend options for this pc

click next

choose usb flash drive ( do not choose iso file)

click next

choose the formated usb

then click next

it then should be making a install media. wait till it gets to 100 percent this can take a hour etc once its done it will prompt a eject.

which then you can use this as now your boot option in the motherboard. boot option 1.
