Approx two weeks ago I was using my computer as I usually would when it suddenly shutdown on me. I'm not positive but I've a pretty good feeling that it overheated. I think this caused my thermal paste to melt and penetrate the cpu which caused a short. This is all speculative though. When trying to start it back up the few lights on the motherboard blink and then nothing. If I press the power again absolutely nothing happens. If I hard disconnect the power and plug it back in and hit the power button... the blink thing happens again.
I have since tried every stick of ram I own in every slot configuration, reset the bios, reset cmos, tried different cases, breadbox'd everything, added and removed every component in every conceivable order, swapped out multiple PSU's and tried them in other computers, gone through the TomsHardware check lists, combed the forums, etc etc etc etc... The only thing remotely succesful is if I unplug the 8 pin CPU power. The computer will fire up (after perssing the power multiple times). I've checked the cpu. All pins are accounted for and straight. I've since cleaned the whole thing of any residule thermal paste and whatnots.
With everything I've tried my only conclusion is that the 8pin cpu power connector on the mobo is somehow damaged (I've examined it and can't actually see any damage). Any help would be appricieated, although a new computer is looking like the only answer. Which.. well.. I have zero monies .. soo yeah.
