MSI Motherboard Problem

Hello,

I just finished a build for a family member, and this problem I am running across is giving me quite the headache. So, here is what is going on... The computer is using a 2TB WD HDD and the computer works fine, until it restarts. Once it has restarted, it will then lose the HDD and ask for you to insert boot media, or it will load into the UEFI/BIOS by itself.

The only work around we found to this is to do shut down the computer, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. Then it will boot into Windows 10 just fine. I have tested the RAM with memtest86 and everything came back without any errors. I even got a new HDD installed with Windows 10 on it, and the problem still happens. I swapped out the SATA cable, thinking possibly it was bad, but that didn't fix it. I have also tried all the SATA ports on the Motherboard to no avail. Lastly, I did make sure to update the BIOS to the latest version.

I spoke to MSI support and they said that they think it could be bent CPU pins. I checked and did not see any, but I am going to look over it again, because this is problem is starting to drive me a little crazy.

I'm not sure what it could be and have run out of ideas to try and fix this. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for taking your time to read this!

Solution
I had a very similar issue with the MSI 970A-G43 PLUS motherboard. A cold boot after 10-15 seconds off works fine. Any other type of bootup hangs the system at the end of the startup diagnostic but before the OS begins loading. I wasn't seeing the insert boot media message.

Anyways, I went through through all of the same troubleshooting steps that you did. Additionally, I cleared the CMOS using the jumper reset. Googling to find your post was my last ditch effort before resigning myself to living with it, but then I decided to run through some reboots after toggling a bunch of BIOS/UEFI settings. Turns out "Windows 8 Setting" was the culprit. I've read elsewhere that this setting disables legacy mode and forces UEFI, but I know...

Here is a link to the PSU: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2F84BC9225&cm_re=220-g2-0750-xr-_-17-438-017-_-Product

The CPU has not been overclocked, but the XMP profile is on.

Yes, this issue only happens when I reboot/restart.

Yes, if I shut down then turn it back it on, the computer will boot to the Windows User login screen.

Sadly, I miss out on some fast bootup options when I have this disabled. At least my system reboots, now...
