MSI Optix Monitor locked to 120hz.

Hey all, I recently built a new system. Everything has gone as smoothly as anyone could hope for. I noticed though that the Monitor is capped at 120hz, even though it's a 144hz monitor. When I go into my display settings it doesn't give me a option to go any higher.

Monitor is, MSI Optix G24C, plugged into a GTX 1080, with a Ryzen 7 1800x.

I just thought that was odd that its capped at that. MSI's website doesn't offer anything in the form of drivers for the monitor. Is it being held back by hardware configuration?

What cable is used to plug it from the monitor to the GPU?

Am currently using the HDMI cable that was provided with the monitor.

if you have an option od Displayport on your monitor, spend some extra bucks and buy it (you will get a better visual). Also, as u have said your monitor is a 144hz, that means there is nothing bad that would happen if you overclock your monitor to 144hz. see the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUwwtNIRndo
ignore that he is talking about 60hz monitors, it works with higher end monitors too.

See spec sheet,

Hdmi = 120Hz
Displayport = 144Hz

If monitor didn't come with a Displayport cable and go to buy one, go for an Accell brand. They're the best quality and when it comes to Displayport + 144Hz you don't want a bad uncertified cable.

That monitor is limited to 120 Hz over HDMI, it is listed right on the product page, and in the manual. You need to use DisplayPort or DVI for 144 Hz.

Normal DP to DVI cables will be limited to 60 Hz at 1080p.

Ah, that's an easy fix. Was a bit clueless of me,and a little embarrassing, thanks for all your help guys. Put in the Display Port cable and viola.
